About
I started as a portrait photographer  in 1969,  elbow deep in mixing developing chemicals, processing and exposing film, burning and dodging exposures and dragging paper through chemical baths.  We used to call it “wet finger” photography.

I moved to fashion photography where my work appeared in Chatelaine, Flare, Elle, Men’s Wear Magazine, Homemakers, Toronto Life and TV Guide. My work was also published  frequently in the Star, Globe & Mail and The Telegram newspapers as well as their weekend magazines. At the same time I was shooting editorial fashion and advertising for numerous retailers. My work included product photography for clients like Yardley Canada, American Express, Royal Bank, and CIBC and was instrumental in helping Polaroid Launch the SX-70 camera in Canada.

Today my focus is digital photography and its corresponding post production. I’m busy with  Corporate/Consumer Interior Imaging for interior designers and architects, digital restorations and Corporate portraiture for magazine and press releases, websites, LinkedIn and Facebook. When I can, I travel, capturing some of the most beautiful places in the world.

Photography for me is all about the aesthetic. I like to create beautiful images. And I find beauty everywhere, especially in the imprint of life on people’s faces and on the landscape. I tell stories through my pictures. I especially love the nuances of black and white imagery. So much narrative is told in the gray areas.

My commercial work is clean and precise, like plain language. My artistic work is personal, whimsical and subtle. It makes space for the viewer to find subtext and meaning in ways that move and engage. That’s the real power of photography.

I have solid classical technique. I started taking pictures on a Kodak Brownie when I was eleven. I got my hands wet pulling light-sensitive paper through a series of chemical baths. The magic of watching an image appear has never failed to amaze me.

My classical background was a perfect launch pad into the digital age of photography. I not only embraced the technology wholeheartedly but led the charge on it. I find digital photography liberating, crazy creative and perfect for someone like me who seeks and appreciates the beauty in life.
